A propulsive and uncommonly wise novel about one unexpected wedding guest and the surprising people who help her start anew.
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years―she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself. Meanwhile, the bride has accounted for every detail and every possible disaster the weekend might yield except for, well, Phoebe and Phoebe's plan―which makes it that much more surprising when the two women can’t stop confiding in each other.

I started this book thinking it was dreadful by 5% in. I wasn’t prepared for what it was about, and perhaps didn’t want to read about someone else’s misery. But I continued on and found the book to be *wonderful* in the most sincere meaning of the word. I loved that each main character got their “growth moment”.
Wow this book was so unique from the start. The plot seemed somewhat vague but you realize almost right away that it’s intentional, because there’s a big twist. The more I read, the more I felt myself rooting for the main character and feeling so much happiness and warmth for her. It was a truly perfect book that I would’ve normally not chosen for myself and I’m so sad to have it be over.
This book really isn’t my genre, I bought it for a Book Club read, but I absolutely loved it!
The book was slow reading with several points however overall not recommended the ending does not want u to keep reading what happens next
The unpredictability, the characters; and their demons, make for a story that has you choosing sides. A wedding you can’t get enough of.
